FloorRight™ Digitizer Troubleshooting

1) Check that the digitizer cables are all connected correctly. There should be a cable going from the digitizer to the computer, a power cable from the digitizer to the plug outlet, and a digitizer pen or puck (kind of like a mouse) that is connected to the digitizer. Also, if your digitizer has a power switch, make sure it is on.

If the power was not on or a cable was not connected correctly, you will have to reboot your computer after correcting the problem.

2) If you have a cordless pointing device, try using new batteries. If it has an optional cord, try using the cord.

3) Does the proximity light work? Many digitizers have an LED that flashes when the pointing device is not on the digitizer, and is solid when the pointing device is on the digitizing pad. If your digitizer has a proximity light, test that it is recognizing the pointing device. If so, then the hardware is probably functioning correctly and the problem is related to the digitizer drivers or to the connection to the computer.

4) Do you know which COM port your digitizer is connected to? A COM port is the adapter on the computer that the digitizer plugs into. Many digitizer will only work on COM ports 1-4. Make sure your digitizer is connected to one of these COM ports.

5) Do you know how many COM ports are in use on your computer? Most computers only have two COM ports. If you have a modem and a serial mouse, both of your COM ports could be in use. If this is the case, then you may have to reconfigure your modem or purchase a bus mouse, which doesn't use a COM port.

6) Can you control the mouse by moving the digitizer pointing device along the digitizer tablet? If so, then the digitizer is communicating with the computer.

7) Did you install the correct drivers? FloorRight requires the correct drivers. Did you install the Wintab™ drivers provided by the manufacturer? One way to check is to open up the Windows Control Panel and look for a tablet or digitizer applet. Most digitizer manufacturers supply a control panel applet along with the Wintab drivers.

You can also check if the Wintab drivers are loaded by running FloorRight Commercial and selecting Digitizer Info from the Digitizer menu. This dialog box should display the digitizer driver manufacturer and digitizer dimensions. If it does not, then the Wintab drivers are not installed correctly. Refer to your digitizer documentation or contact the digitizer vendor to learn how to install the Wintab drviers.

8) Have you ever installed a different manufacturer's digitizer on this computer? If so, maybe you didn't uninstall the old Wintab drivers. Try running the uninstaller for the old Wintab drivers and then re-install the new digitizer drivers.

9) A list of digitizer manufacturers and their associated websites are listed on http://www.pointing.com/HWVENDOR.HTM. Your digitizer manufacturer may have additional troubleshooting information on their website.

10) The FloorRight help file contains additional troubleshooting information. If your digitizer is working correctly but you have problems that are specific to FloorRight, please refer to the FloorRight help file.
